Pictures from "Fibre Content"

Finally - the show was two weeks ago and I am just getting the photos up now - but I did want to share them as the show was wonderful.
We had a great turnout and so many people worked so hard, organizing, hanging, taking down - the list is endless.

So here is how it looked - even though we didn't have a great weekend weather wise!

Enjoy, it was a great weekend!
Very best wishes ~

Culture Days in Oakville

So, once again, I am fortunate enough to belong to a group of fabulous fibre artists that also belong to the Oakville Arts Council.
And I proud to say, that I will be part of Culture Days in Oakville at the new Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre on Saturday, September 29th.

There will be music and performances, as well as visual artists of all kinds - I will be volunteering at the event at the SAQA tables. We have a great display of work as well as information about the various groups in our area as well as upcoming shows!

The Oakville Fibre Arts group will have the studio up and running and open for visitors as well!

So, if you are in area of Bronte in Oakville, please drop by QE Park on Bridge Road and take it all in.

A few pieces that will be in the show!

Very best wishes for a great week,
Barbara

Mystics Dance

detail

I have been fortunate enough over the past few months to have been part of the organizing group for an upcoming show called “Fibre Content” and also lucky enough to have my own piece “Mystics Dance” juried in! I have had the opportunity to work with a wonderful group of artists that are passionate about fibre art.
I have been working on this piece for a while on this (among others) … Mystics Dance is watercolour on muslin with hand-stitch and free-motion, … I was so thrilled to have it accepted.

If you would like to read more about the show please go to the fibrations website and we are on facebook as well thanks to the hard work of one of our committee members.

So, click here to go to the website - fibrations.org - and click here to go to the facebook page for the Fibre Content Show.

This is a two day show at the end of October hanging at the beautiful Burlington Performing Arts Centre!

Have wonderful weekend,

Barbara

Prince Edward Island

I know it has been a while since I posted - and I have been busy with my artwork and have much news to share in the coming weeks about fall shows and such!

But first I would just like to share some photographs that I have just taken in a wonderful place ~ Prince Edward Island ~

We have been visiting the island and these particular cottages since 1994 ( for the first time) but life and things get in the way sometimes (which I know is not good) - so it has been a few years since we have been back. I won't let so much time pass next time.

Taken in Darnley, PEI (on the North side) at Beach meadow Cottages ~ enjoy ~ and thank you so much Elizabeth and Richard for welcoming us back!

Thank you for visiting and have a wonderful August

Secret Garden

Hello again and hoping that you have had a great weekend, I wanted to share this piece which has become my "secret garden" - I am not quite sure who lives in there but it looks warm and inviting! It may be hard to see all the stitching but it is heavily machine stitched to enhance the watercolours and wool rovings.

Some detail photos

This is watercolour on muslin, wool roving and threads!
About 18" x 18"

Halton Youth Symphony Orchestra Auction

I just wanted to report back on the opening of the Halton Youth Symphony Orchestra. It took place Tuesday past and was a huge success. There was a big turnout and it seemed that all the fibre art pieces recieved bids which was great news for us.

This is an image of the HYS taken from the website http://www.fibrations.org/ which is the website which details  the various fibre art projects paired with classical music events.

We had a great evening with lots of questions about fibre art and also comments on the texture and colour of the pieces. You can view the works by visiting the website and following the links to Halton Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend,
Barbara

Summer Symphonies

Hello again,

And I know it has been a while since I posted but thank you for being so patient. Life often throws us things that we are not prepared for! I have been working through it!

The following photos are pieces that are being donated to the Halton Youth Symphony Orchestra for silent auction. It is always a fun time but a lot of work just the same. Lots of work on the set up!

I hope you enjoy ...these are watercolour with wool rovings - hand and machine stitch!
